Ever noticed how people queue around the block when Apple launch a new iPhone?
Or how collectors wait eagerly for the next release from their favourite brand, dealer or auction house?
In fact, we see it in the antiques world all the time. Think about multi-day events like the Bath Decorative Fair. On that first trade-only morning, buyers arrive hours early, queuing outside just to get the first look at the fresh stock.
That anticipation matters.
And whilst we are obviously not suggesting anybody queues outside your antiques shop in a sleeping bag waiting for a Georgian chest of drawers...
... creating excitement around new stock absolutely works.
One feature in our website manager which quietly helps dealers do exactly that is our pending to go live feature.
It is a very simple feature.
But simple does not mean ineffective.

What is the pending to go live feature?
When adding an item to your website, you can choose a specific date and time for that item to automatically go live.
The feature can be found in the main tab when adding or editing an item.
So instead of publishing stock immediately, you can prepare your items in advance and schedule them to appear automatically later.
This means you can:-
- Plan ahead
- Build anticipation
- Coordinate with fairs you're exhibiting at, Instagram and mailshots
- Launch groups of stock together
- Avoid rushing around at the last minute
And importantly...
You can look much more organised and professional to your clientele.
So here are a few simple but surprisingly effective ways you can use this feature to generate more interest, engagement and enquiries.

1. Schedule stock to go live for the start of an antiques fair
Take major antiques fairs, for example.
Before the doors even open, a great tactic is to upload a large amount of stock onto your website and schedule it all to go live at the exact start time of the event.
Why?
Because it creates anticipation with existing clients.
Your buyers suddenly see a whole collection of fresh stock appear all at once.
That feels exciting.
It creates urgency.
And it encourages people to check your website at a specific time because they know something new is coming.
Some fairs our clients use it when exhibiting at are:-
You can even mention on Instagram or in an email:-
"New stock going live Friday at 11am"

2. Use it for seasonal launches and themed collections
Another great use case is seasonal stock.
For example:-
- Christmas launches
- Summer garden antiques
- Autumn decorative pieces
- Country house interiors
- Military anniversary pieces
- Themed collections
We know dealers who prepare stock well in advance and slowly release items throughout December almost like an advent calendar.
Again, this creates habit and anticipation.
If your buyers know you release fresh stock every evening at 7pm during December, they are far more likely to keep checking your website.
And more visits usually means more enquiries.

3. Coordinate launches with your mailshots
This is probably one of the most overlooked uses for the feature.
Let’s say you upload 20 new items.
Instead of publishing them immediately, you could schedule them all to go live on Tuesday at 5pm.
Then...
Schedule your email mailshot to go out at exactly the same time.
Now your subscribers click through from the email and immediately see fresh stock.
This works especially well with buyers who follow your business closely.
It gives them a reason to open your emails quickly rather than leaving them sitting unread in their inbox.

4. Build excitement on Instagram and social media
One thing social media is brilliant at is building anticipation.
You have probably seen:-
- "Launching tonight at 8pm"
- "New collection dropping tomorrow"
- "Stock release this Sunday"
There is no reason antiques dealers cannot do the same thing.
In fact, it arguably works even better with antiques because many items are one-offs.
Once they are gone...
They are gone.
Try posting:-
"10 fresh pieces going live tomorrow at 6pm"
Or use Instagram stories showing sneak peeks before the launch.

5. Schedule sales and promotions properly
Another useful scenario is scheduled sales.
For example, perhaps you have:-
- Items you want to reduce
- Older stock you want to move on
- A seasonal sale event
- A fair clearance
Rather than manually editing items one by one at midnight whilst drinking your fifth coffee...
You can prepare everything properly in advance.
Then schedule those items to go live automatically at the exact date and time you want.
Pro tip for Antiques Boutique and Militaria Zone dealers
If your website is connected to Antiques Boutique or Militaria Zone, your scheduled items can automatically go live there at the same date and time too.
So one upload can coordinate across multiple platforms automatically.
Less faffing around. More selling.
Final thoughts
Sometimes the best marketing ideas are not about spending more money.
They are about presenting what you already have in a smarter way.
If you have great stock, good photography and loyal buyers already following your business...
Then giving people something to look forward to can make a surprisingly big difference.
So instead of uploading items randomly throughout the week...
Try creating an event out of it.
Build anticipation.
Create momentum.
And make your next stock upload feel like a launch rather than just another listing.
Future you will probably be quite grateful.
P.S.
The scheduled uploads feature is already included as standard with all our websites. If you want more info or a free demo of our websites to see how it all works, feel free to contact us.
