We recently launched our new instagram management service and I wanted to report back on some of the massive differences we've seen in engagement for some of our clients in such a short space of time. For one particular client we have increased their engagement on Instagram by 33x !!
Sales, enquiries, pounds, dollars and euros are what count....
So what drives that? It's what we call in the industry engagement.
Put simply engagement is the percentage of (real) followers actually commenting, liking and interacting with your posts. This is one of the reasons we strongly recommend against buying instagram followers.
Let's say you have 5,000 followers, but each time you post you get on average 1 comment, and 5 likes, no direct messages, and no visits from your Instagram to your website to buy what you're selling. This of course isn't going to help you shift your militaria stock from your website. The result, is a grand total of $0 in sales; so those 5k followers aren't doing anything to your bottom line.
Let's look at a very different example. You have "just" 1,000 followers but each time you post you get about 10 comments, 50 likes, 5 or so direct messages enquiring about what you have for sale, and a few dozen visits from your Instagram to your actual website. As a result, you get Instagram followers on your website enquiring about or buying your items, and you make $1,000 in sales.
This is why we say that engagement is far more important than follower count.
We've been providing a website for this client for a few years now, but they've recently signed up to our newly launched social media management service.
They were far from new to Instagram as they already had over 4,000 followers but they were finding it harder to manage due to lack of time, not being able to keep up with all the changes Instagram keeps making, and feeling like they were putting more effort in but getting less results.
In just over a month we've raised their engagement from 0.29% to 9.5%, which you can see in the screenshots below...
As well as the engagement going up substantially, you can see that the amount of accounts reached has grown from 69 to 1,900 !!
